Will OpenAI release a model that surpasses Claude Opus 5.5 before January 1, 2027

This market will close for predictions on January 1, 2027 at 02:29 PM.

It will be resolved using these rules: Resolves YES if OpenAI releases a new flagship general-purpose model after GPT-6 Astra and, within 30 days of release, it demonstrates clearly superior overall performance to Claude Opus 5.5 across major independent or first-party benchmark results available for both models. Evidence may include widely recognized benchmarks covering reasoning, coding, agentic/tool-use, and general knowledge. A win on only one narrow benchmark will not be sufficient. If results are mixed with no clear overall advantage, the market resolves NO. Only publicly available models count. Research previews unavailable to ordinary users/API customers do not count.
